As part of our social values, we encourage diversity across the industry and our local communities.
On Friday 28 June 2024, Nathan Thompson, HR Officer
delivered a presentation about Careers in Construction to the Nepalese Community of Carlisle.
Nepal is full of history and is know for its diverse geography with the Himalayan Mountain range, which includes Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth.
Nepal is also home to the Gurkhas, soldiers who support the British Army. The Gurkhas have a long-standing reputation as some of the toughest and most disciplined soldiers around. The presence of the Gurkhas in the British Army has led to the establishment of vibrant Nepalese communities in the UK, including in Carlisle, where many ex-Gurkhas and their families reside.
Prior to the presentation a lot of the community were
unaware of the opportunities within the construction industry and were surprised at the range of jobs available across the construction, commercial and administration teams.
Some of the attendees had previous construction experience from working in Nepal and were interested in learning how to get started working in construction in the UK. To help with this we explained what a CSCS card is and how to obtain one.
Thank you to everyone who attended. We will continue to offer support where we can and encourage diversity amongst the construction industry.
