The boating area had been constructed of large wooden balks which had, over time rotted and been eroded. This made the edge very dangerous for the public. R H Irving Construction Ltd proposed that plastic sheet piles be driven into the gravel deposits at the edge of the Tarn to stabilise the structure before a concrete backing and platform deck was poured in situ. This provided a safe and secure platform onto which the pontoons could be attached and one which will resist further erosion for many years to come.
Obviously, care had to be taken not to contaminate the water with cement material. The works had to be undertaken on a very strict and limited budget and we feel our clients received excellent value. This was a particularly enjoyable job.
