The project comprised the replacement of deteriorated gabion baskets and reno mattresses along approximately 200m of the Mill Burn watercourse located beneath the M74 motorway near Abington Interchange (Junction 13). The works involved the removal of damaged gabion structures and mattresses, excavation and earthworks to facilitate access and profile formation, installation of geotextile separators and concrete blinding, and the reconstruction of gabion baskets and reno mattresses on a like-for-like basis using retained and imported stone where required.
